Yea, verily, Engerland v. Italia this afternoon. It will be a war of attrition. Which team will “out-negative” the other, sort of like which of the two hangers will hang least down the final 70 yards.

On the one hoof, we have Italia, masters of the ultimate don’t-come-out-of-your-shell-game, catenaccio, whereby the 10 outfield players do their best impression of pretending to be a bus parked in front of their own goal.

Then we have Engerland, hardly a free-flowing XI in its own right, but with perhaps the best back 5 in the tourney thus far.

The video, originally shot for the 1990 World Cup in Italy, has renewed appropriateness today. Engerland v. Italia, arrivederci it’s one-on-one, indeed.
