Jered Weaver! Doc Halladay! Chipper Jones! Beisbol #1 always!

Of all the professional sports in the United States of ’murrika, baseball, aside from the unfortunate episodes with Mark Sosa, Sammie McGwire, Rafe Canseco & Jose Palmeiro, is the one that most resembles what it was 20 or even 50 years ago. It is timeless.

NFL is big and bloated, a monolith corporation, mindless, Moloch, Mormon Inc. NBA is too angry, too tattooed, all ’tude.

Football and basketball used to be keep-your-head-down team sports, a slap on the rump for congratulations. Now you just can’t get enough attention drawn to yourself. It’s ridiculous.

The less hip and cool a sport is, the better. Horseracing doesn’t need betfaire or young-punk awesomeness; it needs people who have attention spans longer than those of a Mexican Jumping Pod who will embrace the entirety of the sport, not merely that it’s on Twitter with free beers.
