First Post: Friday, October 28, 2011

Man, these 2011 Tejas Rangers are getting late, just like that 1990 Dayjur in the BC Sprint. Jumping shadows at the wire, the ghost of Jack Buck channels through his boy Joe. We will see you tonight, indeed!

Baseball always is greater than American Gridiron Throwball. There’s no poetry in watching 350-lb. behemoths do the electric boogaloo after every half-decent play they make; however, there is something quite lyric and literary about a hometown kid throwing his helmet between his legs just as he’s about to touch home plate after smacking a homerun that carries his boyhood team to a date with destiny and a decisive Game 7 in the World Serious.

And, really, now, did you honestly think the godsz of baseball were going to let a pitcher with the name of “Feldman” be immortalized as having recorded the final out in a World Serious clincher? Nevah! Oy gevalt!

Of course, Herr Feldman may yet do so tonight! As always, we root for good baseball. As long as it’s like last night and the Cardinalsz prevail. Please, you know where to send your bomb threats.

We were going to go on about “The Rum Diary” and the legacy of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson in today’s lede, too; however, the baseball last night was simply too good to go unmentioned. The cinematic adaptation can wait. Baseball is always greater than the Puerto Rican Bowling Leagues, too.

Nocturnal Submission: Back to the Subdued Delta now for Race 6 (9:03 p.m. EDT / 6:03 p.m. PDT). In it, #9 Sweettalkin Hottie has better than a whisper of a chance. …Later there, it’s the eighth (9:57 / 6:57), and #2 Bright Kylie can light up the tote. …A surprise appearance from Golden Gate Fields now, where the Occupy Oakland participants should really take a break from all that authoritarianism and instead get down on #6 Brodmeister in the sixth (5:50 / 2:50). …Over to the seventh at PennNat (8:29 / 5:29) for a flyer on #8 Quiet Thanks. …

Thank you. Best wishes. Goodbye.
