Opening Day, but not with the usual branding…

Twenty years ago, a kid makes his first visit to a sprawling Southern California track. It is Santa Anita, but not really; it is the famous Oak Tree meet, est. 1969. No more! Or at least not right now. And the Los Angeles Times Sports section used to be 20 pages thick, no tire ads necessary.
