Your Saturday Stakes Sweep: July 9, 2011

All right, all right, ya current-affairs dweebs, lots of stakes on the docket, free and paid.

Arlington 9 & 10, the Grade II American Derby & the Grade III Arlington Handicap, respectively, are on the pay-side.

Also available for hire is Monmouth 11 (the Long Branch).

Belmont 9, the Grade I Man o’ War, is on the free page. Same goes for Calder’s eighth (the Sweettrickydancer) and 12th (the Grade I Princess Rooney), and Hollypark’s eighth (the Grade I Gold Cup!)

OK. So let’s now pick at the remains of the stakes day; kindly allow us to name some actual issues. Thank you.

Calder 9 is the Grade III Azalea, and #3 Beso Grande is a mild spoiler. In the 11th there, the Grade II Smile, #4 Irrefutable is a live third-choice on the morning line.

Potential upsets brewing in Delpark’s added-money events. The seventh is the Grade III Robert G. Dick Memorial, and #8 Honimiere can do it! Next race is the Barbaro (R.I.P.) where #11 Tyzach has the requisite ability; sensible saver is #8 J W Blue.

Complete shocker in the cards at Lone Star. It’s the seventh, the Valor Farm. Love those 30-1 morning-line no-hopers, so #10 Playgirl Prospect gets the nod. Follow that upset up with #4 Skip a Smile in the following event, the Assault.

Finally, if you prefer less excitement, try the solid morning-line fave in Woodbine’s eighth, the Ontario Damsel. In it, #6 Roxy Gap will be difficult to deny.

Best wishes for a prosperous Saturday!
