This far inland…

Many happy returns today to this mope in this edition’s snapshot lede; he hits the Big Heinz 57 today…that’s five-seven. His face here suggests he’s led a nice, quiet, mainly unobjectionable existence, so far. As well, he shares the same birthday as Cosimo de Medici, Samuel Adams, Fat William Conrad, Don Cornelius (!), Gwyneth Paltrow (ugh), Jenna Ortega (ah! much better!) and, of course, his childhood baseball hero, one Mistah Michael Jack Schmidt, 75 today, which was convenient, because the Phillies were (and still are!) his sole diamond allegiance, and Schmidt’s Philadelphia teams of the 1970s routinely would clinch on this date, Sept. 27 — fine celebrations all around. Happy Birthday now!

It’s not the winds that kill you; it’s the waters.

The reason for the radio silence yesterday was, in part, the result occurring at the 9:30 mark of today’s video lede. Yea, verily, ladies, gentlemen & children of all ages, your long Delaware Valley nightmare is over, because your Philalala Phightin’ Phils have won the Nat’l. League East for the first time since 2011. #ringthebell

Last week it was the Iggles who could not complete the intense winning-weekend trizacta combining your No. London Arsenal F.C., your Philalala Phightin’s and those aforementioned Go Birds, losing in the last minute after seemingly having the contest in-hand. This weekend, though, the Eagles flew like a wounded pigeon to an unconvincing win but, as they always say in the sports world, ‘a win’s a win’. And as they also say more generally, ‘it beats getting poked in the eye by a sharp stick!’ Or something like that. Shown in today’s video lede is today’s breakout star on offense for the Philadelphians, one Mistah Dallas Goedert…GOEDERT! #gobirds #flyeaglesfly

Saturday!

Goalkeeper David Raya kept another clean sheet for Arsenal F.C. last night, this time in the club’s first UEFA Champions League match of the season, away at Atalanta. At the final whistle, it ended in a nil-nil bore draw, save, of course, for Raya’s saves.
