A jumbo jet airplane is not nearly as quiet as a library; nonetheless, the conditions for long, absorbed, uninterrupted stretches of high-intensity reading are nearly as good at 30,000-ft. as they are among the stacks & shelves on terra firma. Every time we’re on a several-hours-long nonstop flight, we cannot help but do our best consumption of the written word. Even better, thanks to some useful technology, we can actually munch on airline-sized bags of pretzels & biscuits while simultaneously turning to the next page! This is one of the greatest combinations known to man: feeding the mental mind while at the same time nourishing (loosely speaking) the physical body. Soaring!
From six-miles-high to sea-level and now back to our standard elevation of approx. 1,150-ft., from LAX to LIH and back to LAX and finally Upper Nichols Canyon, across the North Pacific and then down on the rock and back to warm & Golden West, we’re trying to resume normal service after reacclimatizing to travel velocities slower than 600mph and stateside time-zones. So here’s what some of Monday’s races brought…
The Hendo., Ky., opener had #6 Midnight Vengeance (.226 Win Prob / 3.42-1 Fair Odds / 4.18-1 Premium Odds) bringing the Witching Hour to his rivals at $13.26. In Race 5 there, a washed-off-the-turf race resulted in #10 West Coast Dream (!) (.342 / 1.92 / 2.42) realizing a low-priced-overlay score at $6.88.
#2 Stjames (.359 / 1.79 / 2.18) won Race 2 out of Canandaigua, N.Y., for Newcastle United Football Club at $6.16.
Back to bidness-as-usual at Cornwells Hts., Penna., now, with the opener being won by #3 Extrasexyzqteepeye (.216 / 3.63 / 4.42) at $11.60. In Race 9, #6 Smallchangegeep (.288 / 2.47 / 2.96) paid a little bit better than that in a $9.60 victory.
To the other end of The Keystone State now for Erie’s Race 2, which #3 She’s Lit (.210 / 3.76 / 4.71) won for Jane Austen (?), Geo. Eliot (!) & Virginia Woolf (?!?!) at $15.20. In Race 5, #8 Traveller (.309 / 2.24 / 2.79) won it for the mascot of the Univ. of So. Calif. at $11.40. In Race 7, #2 Justifiable Steel (.257 / 2.89 / 3.67) won it for Pittsburgh, Penna., at $15-even; completing your winning $35-even exacta was #7 Modarosa (.405 / 1.47 / 1.81), with the premium price on that comboa (comboa!) being $20.62.
Finally from No. Randall, Ohio, it was #6 Quick Recovery (.236 / 3.24 / 4.08) taking the sixth for anabolic steroids & various other beefroids at $13-even.
Here’s your nightcap from The Mountain tonight…
