This was one of those first-birthday cakes provided for the toddler such that they can smash it with their hands, get their mouth messy from all the bakery-related violence and so on. Many happy returns!
Hot out there in the midwest & Eastern Seaboard, yeah? Lots of cancellations at the last minute today, and plenty scheduled ahead of time for the coming week. How can you guys take it? Meanwhile, the marine layer is doing its fine work here on the Best Coast, keeping the mornings (and even the early afternoon, at times) nice and gray & cool. Some people complain about the marine layer, but you know what? Without that marine layer doing its job during this part of the year (as in the climatic phenomena known informally by the local population as ‘May gray’ & ‘June gloom’), then La-La Land here and coastal Southern California in general would just be Phoenix West. And we don’t want to be Phoenix West. It gets plenty hot enough here in September & October. Thank you!

It’s hot out there where you are, and we implore you to stay indoors (with air-conditioning) as much as possible, AND TAKE THOSE HYDRATION BREAKS MORE FREQUENTLY THAN ONCE PER HALF.
