Ladies & gentlemen, for the first time since the 2021-22 season, your No. London Arse are English Premiership Champions. Our long international nightmare is over, long-suffering Gooners! Up the Arsenal! Come on you Gunners! #COYG
Yea, verily, this here Web log has been up-and-running since 2010, and from the off, we have never kept our support for Arsenal F.C. a secret. We have often criticized their poor play, their lack of tangible year-end trophies, their general year-in, year-out knack for disappointing us after they had flirted dangerously close to some kind of fútbol glory.
Yet we never wavered in our allegiance over these past 16 years. We started with the silky-smooth Champagne style of football delivered by Manager Arsène Wenger & such players as the incomparable Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Sol Campbell etc. And even when the pursestrings were tightened, we were still able to marvel at the obscene talent oozing from starlets like Cesc Fabregas, Mesut Ozil, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang etc.
But over the past three or four years, the cash was starting to be splashed anew for elite talent, and the likes of goalkeeper David Raya, centre-halves Wm. Saliba & Gabriel, midfield monsters Martin Odegaard & Declan Rice, and even the odd enigmatic but effective-enough striker like Viktor Gyokeres.
And after a couple of almost-was, nearly-men rushes at football hardware, this squad has finally come good on its potential & tantalizing promise. Well done, lads. Arsenal F.C. are your 2025-26 English Premiership champions.
And the prospect of a double remains in play with a Champions League Final still to contest. There will be relief, and likely a much less constrained and cautious Arsenal on display then. They may finally be freed of having to play with the proverbial handbrake on. It’s not quite house money, but it’s no longer do-or-die, either. We’ll see this club fluent & flowing, ready to prove the title won’t be a one-off.
The last two at The Mountain now…
