Oh, Arsenal! Why you gotta be like this, Arsenal? Why?
From the prospect of a Quadruple, to the still-estimable haul of the Treble, down to the consolation of a Double and now so inexplicably quickly sifting among the ruins of Deep, Deep Trouble, in which ‘their valued destiny might come to nothing’, with the club needing a monumental climb out of the abyss (and a restoration of some intestinal fortitude) to keep alive any chance of hardware coming home in the form of the Champions League trophy (where they’d have to get past Atletico Madrid & then either Bayern Munchen or PSG; very rugged terrain!) or the Premiership (in which they’d likely need to win-out and hope for today’s vanquishers, Manchester City, to somehow drop some points; a daunting route!).
So, to recap, nae Carabao Cup, nae FA Cup, nae Quadruple, nae Treble, mathematically still in for a Double, but with even a lone trophy looking like a faraway destination. On the other hoof, Manchester City still very much in line for a Treble of their own. Nevertheless, #COYG; we die hard, though this year would be the most difficult demise of all.
