‘And now, the end is near…’

Oh, Arsenal! Why you gotta be like this, Arsenal? Why?

From the prospect of a Quadruple, to the still-estimable haul of the Treble, down to the consolation of a Double and now so inexplicably quickly sifting among the ruins of Deep, Deep Trouble, in which ‘their valued destiny might come to nothing’, with the club needing a monumental climb out of the abyss (and a restoration of some intestinal fortitude) to keep alive any chance of hardware coming home in the form of the Champions League trophy (where they’d have to get past Atletico Madrid & then either Bayern Munchen or PSG; very rugged terrain!) or the Premiership (in which they’d likely need to win-out and hope for today’s vanquishers, Manchester City, to somehow drop some points; a daunting route!).

So, to recap, nae Carabao Cup, nae FA Cup, nae Quadruple, nae Treble, mathematically still in for a Double, but with even a lone trophy looking like a faraway destination. On the other hoof, Manchester City still very much in line for a Treble of their own. Nevertheless, #COYG; we die hard, though this year would be the most difficult demise of all.

Recapping some late-issues & strays from yesterday, Saturday: At Chas. Town, W.Va., #5 Intention to Zip (.283 Win Prob / 2.53-1 Fair Odds / 3.24-1 Premium Odds) took the fifth at an unimpeachable $12.20; completing your winning $26.80 exacta was #6 Charlienite, with the premium price on that comboa (combos!) being $16.13. At Opelousas, La., #4 I Got the Hint (.150 / 5.67 / 6.80) also got the win in Race 8 at $18.40. At Grand Island, Neb., #4 Subsidize (.244 / 3.10 / 3.80) underwrote a donation to his backers in Race 5 at $15.60. At Grand Prairie, Tejas, #1 Midway Vow (.314 / 2.18 / 2.73) made it all the way to your Race 6 winner’s circle at $9.60.

As for today, Sunday, some of your races went this way…

At Ozone Park, N.Y., #5 Bam’s Bliss Kiss (.278 / 2.60 / 3.21) gave her Race 7 rivals a fat lip in a $10.32 win.

At Grand Prairie again, #6 Bradford (.233 / 3.29 / 4.02) won Race 2 for Mistah Bradford Rutter at $10.20. In Race 6 there, #1 Aunt Kendra (.181 / 4.52 / 5.63) was a nice relation at $22.80.

At Stickney, Ill., Opening Day now, and in the opener itself, #4 Strange Arrange (.310 / 2.23 / 3.03) and #2 Premium (.528 / 0.89 / 1.16) combined on your winning $13.40 exacta whose premium price was $13.08. Next race there, #1 Keen Gal (.362 / 1.76 / 2.15) was sufficiently sharp to score at $7-even; completing your winning $16-even exacta was #2 Veronicaforthewin (.306 / 2.27 / 2.82), with the premium price on that comboa (comboa!) being $16.42. As well, your opening winning daily double paid $34-even off a premium price of $25.38.

At Lexingon, Ky., #4 Chasing Sunsets (.189 / 4.29 / 5.19) was chased to no avail in Race 3 at $13.26.

At Laurel, Md., #8 My Girl Back Home (.177 / 4.65 / 5.44) resided in the Race 1 winner’s circle at $16.80.

At Hot Springs, Ark., #6 Choctaw Zip (.184 / 4.43 / 5.36) was sufficiently zippy in Race 5 at $13-even.

At Etobicoke Int’l., #6 Highwaytothemoon (.274 / 2.65 / 3.27) led to victory lane in Race 4 at $9-even.
