Good yontiff, easy fast, etc.

For the Hebrew faithful at sundown, the Day of Atonement begins. May you be inscribed in the Book of Life now, although there are some notable late inclusions who already have been called away before the solemn observance starts tonight: Ethel Kennedy, the professional tennis career of Rafa ‘The Bull’ Nadal, the once-promising baseball season for your Philalala Phightin’ Phils, so many others…

The Phils were just not a good team for the second three months of their 2024 campaign. Everything was rolling like a juggernaut in the first three months — hitting, fielding, both halves of the pitching equation. Then it all went pear-shaped, some injuries here and there, starting rotation showing fatigue, the relievers unable to keep up their shutdown dominance. Really, they were fortunate to get the one win they did in their NLDS fiasco against the Metropolitans.

Speaking of those Nat’l. League New Yorkers, they have clutch hitting needed to win in the playoffs. Every year, the teams that get the farthest can always point to a home run or three in each round that made the difference. When Polar Bear Peter Alonso salvaged the Wild Card series against the Brewers, and when Lindor smashed the decisive grand slam to subdue the Phillies, it was reminiscent of the 2022 season for those selfsame Phillies, who got crazy home runs from Marsh, Hoskins and, of course, their own Lindor-type savior, Mistah Bryce Harper, to get to the World Series. If the Mets can get those dingers & dongs against either the Padres or the Dodgers in the NLCS coming up, they will have their own World Series to contest this year.

BestLine Racing Society Recap:

Uh, yeah, we had to take a couple of days off. You might think it was to mourn your Phlailin’ & Phailin’ Philalala Phrightened Phils; maybe it, but it was more a case of playing host to stepgrandson the past couple of days while his parental unit were out of town. All back to normal now, and that little boy can now get his own taste of elimination-game baseball when his hometown team & his favorite player (‘No. 17, Ohtani!’) take to the Dodger Stadium field in approx. 90 mins. from now. Best wishes!

We have two-and-a-half days of results to present, and we’re just gonna list ’em now — no half-bright puns or gut-groaning wordplay, which all the six or seven readers of this here Weblog probably are grateful that they don’t have to stomach this time. L’chaim!
