Summertime, and the racquet-handle overgrips are more prone to earlier disrepair — perspiration! We do not generally fetishize tennis equipment & its maintenance, but during this season of heat and excess humidity, we acknowledge the necessity of keeping the grips new & tacky more frequently than during the nonsummer months.
Indeed, we have had the same Nadal-type Aero Pro Drive+ (need that extra half-inch of length, more leverage!) for nearly 20 yrs. now. We restring only when the gut or polymer snaps. No lead on the frame, no switching racquets depending on the changing surface or condition. Grip it and rip it! But, again, you need an intact overgrip to be able to do that, so when it’s summertime, you have to get that overgrip replaced at the first sign of disintegration.

BestLine Racing Society Recap:
A few post-press-time connections to report from last night’s (Wednesday’s) late action: At Nisku, Edmonton, Alta., #4 Solo Ring (.410 Win Prob / 1.44-1 Fair Odds / 1.93-1 Premium Odds) was alone in the Race 4 winner’s circle at $7.40. In Race 7, #3 Lonesome Cat (.210 / 3.76 / 5.67) clawed her way to victory at $25.30; completing your winning $77.90 exacta was #4 Lifesbeengoodsofar (.229 / 3.37 / 5.11), with the premium price on that comboa (comboa!) being $69.28. As well, your winning $629.60 daily double had a premium price of $69.23.
As for today (Thursday), some of the races went like this…
Opening Day for the New Kent, Va., racing, and #3 Glory Glory (.527 / 0.90 / 1.28) put the hallelujah in a Race 5 lousy with first-timers at $6-even. In Race 9, #3 Next Episode (.145 / 5.90 / 8.66) was a blockbusting totebuster at $60.20.
To Stanton, Del., for another contest lousy with debut-issues, Race 5, in which #7 Phlying Phyllis (.741 / 0.35 / 0.89) phinished phirst at $5-even.
At Stickney, Ill., Race 6 was lousy with firsters, allowing #6 Lit Miss Hat Trick (.626 / 0.60 / 0.92) to get away with an inflated $8.20 win mutuel.
#7 Heart and Soul (.322 / 2.11 / 2.73) took Race 4 from Shelbyville, Ind., at $13.80.
Another Opening Day, this time at swampy Swampatoga Spas., N.Y., whose opener had #7 Empty Tomb (.138 / 6.25 / 9.14) and #8 Rocco Strong (.213 / 3.69 / 4.63) combining on your winning $103-even exacta whose premium price was $102.91. In Race 7, #10 Sunday Girl (.292 / 2.42 / 3.11) was good enough on Thursday at $9.80. Next race there, #13 Crushed Ice (.270 / 2.70 / 3.44) put the chill on her rivals at $8.80 — granted, this was 8¢ shy of the $8.88 premium price; however, we could not blame you if you decided to leave that octet of pennies as a Tribute Upon The Altar of The God of Doing Business Via The Parimutuels. We report, you decide. As well, your $65.50 daily double had a premium price of $36.49.
