Man, there’ve been two postseason béisbol games so far, and they’ve both been fantastic examples of why the playoffs make for fine viewing: good, tight starting pitching; neck-and-neck scoring all the way to the late innings; last-gasp, final-swing heroics; you name it. It feels like when you have two high-class frontrunners going out to the lead and dueling all the way around in a horserace. It feels like that kind of playoff ice-hockey that goes into overtime or multiple extra periods. Yes, the best of playoff béisbol is like this, unlike repetitive hoopball or bombastic American Gridiron Throwball. Playoff béisbol and playoff hockey and high-class frontrunning horseraces and 1-nil fútbol games are always superior spectator events, nuanced and subtle. Hoopball and American Gridiron Throwball for repetitive bombasts only.

Also, no good, Jeurys Familia, no good. Two bad postseasons in a row now. Bring back John Franco. Bring back Tug McGraw. Also, Madison Bumgarner too good for October batters. Clayton Kershaw will not catch him anytime soon. Oh, well.

Free ones: Rundown…

Belmont 8, 9
Santa Anita 4, 8

Pay-side (Weekend/Weekday): Today…

Today’s Stakes Pageantry: Wild-open in Presque 4, wild-open, and #4 Marquee Cal Gal and #1 Artesian are not without chances. Similarly open in the sixth, with #9 Rapa Iti emerging as a live longshot.

Yesterday’s Activity:

Track (Win Mutuels $20+/Gettable)

Belmont (0/0) — Host Metropolitans blanked by San Francisco, 3-nil; T.J. Rivera had Nueva Jork’s only extra-base hit, a double.

Chas. Town (3/1) — Race 4 may have been the mildest race in the history of the LifeLiner Speed Column & LifeLiner Spread Column analyses. The high rating in both was 67; the low in both was 61! What are you gonna do? Everyone — Old-School Champeens, High-Octane Chancers and Progressive-Minded Eggheads all — had a claim to Reademndeletem (no relation to Ned Reldem, Esq.), who went gate-to-wire to win by 1½ at $23.80. Good work.

Delpark (2/0) — Delaware beach towns brace for Matthew.

Finger (1/1) — Race 4 was contentious amongst the experienceds, and High-Octane Chancers had no Fair Odds but a field-best 80 on the LifeLiner Spread Column analysis on Prince Supreme; he went ribcage-to-wire to win by 2¾ at $36.80. Good work.

Indiana (2/0) &mash; Teen robbery suspects arrested after gunfight at W. Indpls. fast-food resto.

Meadowlands (0/0) — Ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for Lincoln Woods.

Mountain (2/0) — Wheeling police investigating armed robbery.

Northlands (0/0) — Oilers name Connor McDavid team captain.

PennNat (1/1) — Race 6 was contentious, but there were no Fair Odds on Mineralistic; however, High-Octane Chancers and Progressive-Minded Eggheads were OK with the 85 on her on the LifeLiner Speed Column analysis. She was up-close throughout before winning by a clean head at $20.60. Good work.

Presque (0/0) — Former Crawford Co. prison warden sentenced to time behind bars.

Remington (2/0) — Earthquake shakes near Pawnee.

Thistle (1/1) — The finale was not contentious, but Cash Conversion had a competitive 86 on the LifeLiner Spread Column analysis; he went gate-to-wire to win by half a length at $31.60. Good work.

Woodbine (2/0) — Blue Jays open ALDS at Tejas on Thursday; Marco Estrada (9-9, 3.48 ERA) starts for Toronto.
