Monday Boxing: Dual DQ Edition

Nope, not a pair of ice-cream stands. Rather, two publicly touted triple-digit win-mutuel horseys placed second after crossing the wire first. Oh, well. What are you gonna do? Racing!

The first of the horrendous beats took place in the nightcap at Belmont. Publicly touted Second Bonkersmate Rain in Spain led all the way to win by a clean head, only to be denied by the Powers That Be, demoted to second. The payoff on ’Spain would have been $100.60.

Then in Race 4 at Santa Anita, publicly touted Second Bonkersmate Espirito Bueno was engaged in a iron-cage death match on the front-end for the entirety of the race, prevailing by a clean nose. But the Grandees in the Placing Office decided, no, our preference is for ’Espirito to be the first loser. Espirito Bueno would have paid $112.80 up top.

Hence, in the span of an afternoon, $213.40 of publicly touted win mutuels…poof! In other words, the same amount of bupkis you would have received from visiting Don J. Trump Sr.’s Website or Slick Hillie’s Twitter feed yesterday. Damn. We’re better than that.

As always, Welcome to The Home of The Steward-Assisted Runner-Up Finish! Regrets!
