asparagus

Eat ’em up!

Normally on this here Web log we shill for only one vegetable: the delicious and nutritious broccoli, the cruciferous king! However, today we take a departure from the brocco and instead tout something that truly signifies springtime: the Sparrow’s Grass, a k a the asparagus. Soon the strawberries and bing cherries will be on their way, plus the artichokes, but for now, the asparagus leads them all, and with it follows the thawing season.

Fresh local asparagus now, only 99¢ per pound at all neighborhood Ralphs Markets — a k a Kroger West. Grassy, light, fresh and steamed to perfection, a perfect spear of delivery for butter or Hollandaise. Do it now: asparagus, 99¢, your local Ralphs here on the Left Coast. Nummy!

Free ones: Rundown…

Today’s Stakes Pageantry: Only five horseys going to the post in your lone added-money event of the day, Race 9 at the Delta, but 12-1 morning-line outsider #6 A Runnin Pop may do better than most can predict.

Yesterday’s Activity: A couple of OK ones on the pay-side, plus nothing but runner-up finishes on the free page. What are you going to do? Hope you had ’em!

here on the right coast we turn the ‘grass(cook lingo for asparagus) into cream of asparagus soup BUT then add diced cooked chicken meat and Pastina aka “acini de pepe” for “Princess Soup”

Wow. That’s haute cuisine right there, Chef! Too much fetish for ourselves. Can’t we enjoy the grass of the sparrow without bending, folding, spindling and mutilating it? What would the El Bulli hombre have to say?

Also, A. J. Burnett…anything left for this sacrificial rubber-arm as he moves to Eastern Penna. now?

A.J. will give you innings…12-14 wins i think. good with younger pitchers.
