Twenty-one tracks on offer for your Friday. Many opportunities for fun and excitement, even if profit is very far off. As Benjamin J. Stein used to say on the Comedy Central: “We shall do our best”.

Jimmy Kimmel, agreeable fellow on the set. What ever happened to him? He had all the talent to eclipse Ben.

Free ones: Rundown…

Aqueduct 1, 5
Calder 7, 9

Pay-side: Today…

Keeneland 3, 5, 6, 8, 9
Tampa 2, 8
Pimlico 3, 5, 6, 7
Turf Paradise 6, 8
Golden Gate 3
Lone Star 1, 4, 5, 6, 7

Today’s Stakes Pageantry: Kee 9, the Grade III Doubledogdare, on the pay-side.

One at SunRay on its Opening Twilight Card, the Inaugural, and the mild upset is in store via 4-1 third-choice on the morning line, #1 Ultimate Question.

Yesterday’s Activity: Used to be, you’d sit by your Tandy-Radio Shack Archer shortwave and listen to all the stations up and down the Eastern Seaboard. You could be in Newport News, Va., and still be able to pull in KYW-AM 1060 from Philly. Or else once the sun went down, you could go in the car on a clear night and turn the knob from left to right on your radio dial, feel the romance of everything from Boston to D.C., baseball games, news, Country-and-Western Music, maybe stretching west to Pittsburgh and Cleveland if you were lucky, clear-channel stations beaming their 50,000 watts up and out into the infinite darkness. Still can do it here on the Left Coast in Studio City, getting everything from KCBS in San Francisco to the smugness of Ted Leitner and the wild enthusiasm of Jerry Coleman (“Oh, Doctor! We got a good one!”) on the Padre broadcasts, static and interference included.

Nowadays the Internet has done away with all that kind of adventure, and everyone expects to find the highest possible studio-monitor sound quality streaming into their telephones and tablets even though the stations are on the Amplitude Modulation Band over the air. So it is with WBZ-AM 1030 and its all-night coverage of what’s been going on in East Watertown, Cambridge and the rest of the Larger City. We go to the source, the locals, the people who know. We don’t need Wolfe Bitzler or Jack Tupper or any of the other national interlopers. The sense of place is disappearing everywhere you go, but we can choose to stay with the hometown media outlets. Homogenization can wait. Everything else being consumed is corporate and consistent and from Centralized Planning. No good, Johnnie, no good. We don’t travel to New Orleans or Miami or Seattle to partake of the same experiences waiting in the Rest of The World. *$$coffee (*$$!), Crate & Barrel, Barnes & Noble, goodbye. Here’s to wabi-sabi, here’s to what sets us (all of us, except the loudest Yelp and Internet know-it-alls on the troll boards) apart, makes us (all of us, except the loudest Yelp and Internet know-it-alls on the troll boards) special, makes us (all of us, except the loudest Yelp and Internet know-it-alls on the troll boardsz) not like the rest of the mopes. Imperfection, wabi-sabi, humanity, it’s better that way. Amen, selah, shantih, shantih, shantih, forever and ever, World Without End.

The Homily Is Delivered. Now, prepare the gifts for the offertory. It is time for the bread and for the wine. Otherwise, Good Yontiff & Good Shabbesz.

  1. Shoutoute says:

Uh-oh. Is it egotistical to reply to one’s own post? Just because the ego is not fully on display does not in any way mean it is not large, not unwieldy and not all manner of problematic! There are productive, positive ways to cope with narcissism, megalomania and the rest of those related conditions. Wabi-sabi.

Anyway, one that the censors have now allowed to be published is Mountain 9 (10:20 / 7:20): #1 Swing Trump.

As well, Double Stumper on tap in Prairie 3 (8:23 / 5:23) via #7 Strange Overtones, #8 Rock This Bar.

Maybe the reply will outperform the post! Or else they can languish together. Best wishes!
