Still can do it here on the Left Coast in Studio City, getting everything from KCBS in San Francisco to the smugness of Ted Leitner and the wild enthusiasm of Jerry Coleman (“Oh, Doctor! We got a good one!”) on the Padre broadcasts, static and interference included.
Nowadays the Internet has done away with all that kind of adventure, and everyone expects to find the highest possible studio-monitor sound quality streaming into their telephones and tablets even though the stations are on the Amplitude Modulation Band over the air. So it is with WBZ-AM 1030 and its all-night coverage of what’s been going on in East Watertown, Cambridge and the rest of the Larger City. We go to the source, the locals, the people who know.
