R.I.P., Brian Wilson. Attended the Smile concert at the venue featured in today’s video lede. The Hollywood Bowl atmosphere & energy are always top-notch, because the outcomes are known, and the people want to be there, unlike, say, at a movie theater when the picture disappoints, or at the stadium or arena when the home team comes up short.
But how much more Southern California / Los Angeles can it get when you have the once-in-a-lifetime Brian Wilson sitting behind his keyboard center stage beneath the shell of the world-famous amphitheater, and he’s smiling, and playing and generally all the other people inside the place can’t help but — yes! — smile. An unforgettable evening under the stars outside, a setting & event that could not have been staged anywhere else but deep within the Cahuenga Pass, the U.S. 101 freeway roaring alongside. Magic.
