Tuesday Sniping: NATO Phonetic Alphabet Edition

If you ever want to sound authoritative or with-it when you’re on the phone with some sort of tech support or bureaucrat, whip out the Phonetic Alphabet. It’s cool.

Convey any alphanumeric information by inserting the appropriate words for the individual letters. For example, 885B12X9L7 becomes “eight-eight-five-BRAVO-one-two-XRAY-nine-LIMA-seven”.

Extra-credit for using the following “phonetic” numbers: TREE for 3, FO-WER for 4, FIFE for 5, NINER for 9.

The drone on the other end will immediately understand that you mean business. Or else figure that you are an amateur pilot or were or are still in the Armed Forces.

Nevertheless, the Phonetic Alphabet is your friend. Deploy it with pride.
