Even better, he actually ventured a few quid on the buggy-racers in the flesh over the half-miler. Two times around equals the flat-mile! Indeed, when you watch the trotters, you think you could get in the bike and just go around single-file, Indian-style, before trying to swing out seven-wide in the final 440 feet. Yee-haw, harness racing…Armbro Hanover…Jate Lobell…No Nukes…Adios Harry!

All right, all right, ya Monticello Raceway nostalgists! Didn’t you ever find it odd how the announcer always did the rundown at the harness tracks, listing the finish positions from the top-down, rather than the programme numbers in order of finish? As well, harness horses get disqualified for going too fast.

Still, harness racing > American Quarter Horse racing.

So, yeah, there was that Ned Reldem, Esq., phoning in from the Eastern Shore, home of Frank Perdue and all the other Poultry Mavens, who sell their birds to roadside restaurants up and down Route 13, where they end up as that lip-smacking local delicacy known as ‘broasted chicken’. Ned was in fine form, with Miss Kittie slinging out the ice-cold longnecks like clockwork, every 15 mins. on the dot.

Despite his ongoing facial numbness, Ned was able to report glad tidings from Woodbine 6, won by Bonkersmate Zipper Solo, $25.80.

Zipper Solo, eighth-ranked on the conventional V6 Betting Line, got a good-enough mark from the LifeLiner Speed Column analysis, 82. At 15-1 on the morning line, the ’Zipper was bet-down to 10¢ shy of 12-1. The ’Zipper held on by a grim nose.

In the finale at Arlington, sole-touted Yankee Dealer won by 1 at $33.40 up top.

Yankee Dealer, top of the V6 Betting Line at Fair Odds of 3-1 in a contentious race, was sanctioned by the LifeLiner Speed Column analysis via a solid 87. Yankee Dealer, 8-1 on the morning line, went off at 30¢ shy of 16-1.

The race’s runner-up, Revolt, was not toutable (toutable!) due to a too-low morning line of 6-1. However, Revolt was OK on LifeLiner, and the exacta, 15-1 over 6-1 in an eight-horse field, paid $243.60, for $2.

Over at Bossier City in the northwest corner of the State of Louisiana, Bonkersmate Brittany’s Tuition came through to win the eighth by a dirty neck at $30-even.

’Brittany, 15-1 on the morning line, was neglected by the Betting Line but given the go-ahead on the LifeLiner Speed Column analysis, 82. She closed like the champion she’s on her way to becoming, scoring as the seventh-choice in the wagering.

Back to the seashore now, this time at Red Bank/Oceanport, N.J., and Race 5, won by sole-touted Shesfromboston.

Shesfromboston, another reject on the Betting Line but one of three 80-plus Life Liner Speed Column analysis qualifiers in the 10-horse field, went off at 28-1, nearly twice her morning-line odds of 15-1.

Shesfromboston ran to her complete LifeLiner array of 70-61-82, closing like the champion she’s on her way to becoming, winning by three parts of a length at $59.60 straight-up.

Lastly, back to Canada for the closer at Woodbine. In it, top-touted Habemus Papam won it for Francis the Pontiff at $18-even.

So, with the card-ending tallies at Arlington and Woodbine, we are pleased to report not one but TWO KING OF THE <del datetime="2014-08-09T07:08:13+00:00">NIGHTCAP</del> NETCAPPER BULLIESZ specials on the day.
