Yesterday’s Activity<\/strong>: Always good to hear from our plutogarch\/olicrat buddie Ned Reldem, Esq., from the lush and rolling hills of Loudoun\/Falls Church Counties, Va. His latest communiqué reads:<\/p>\n

LifeLiner-approved, and this is why you need the V6 at home! Race 4 Mountain. #1 scratched and #1A top of the LifeLiner [Speed Column analysis]. Went off at 22-1 and crushed. I had it.<\/em><\/p>\n

All right, all right, ya Northern Virginia aristocrat! Take it easy. It’s not like this extra $47-and-change (or any multiple thereof) is going to change your life as a Member of the 1 Percent! Take it easy.<\/p>\n

Then again, it’s always good to get a stroke of the ego, a boost to the confidence, whether you’re a hobo hopping freight trains or one of ’em Flash Boys gaming the financial system and putting the rest of us at a disadvantage.<\/p>\n

Looking at Ned’s Tuesday Night triumph, we see that, indeed, this was a coupled entry, originally, 3-1 on the morning line. One of the horseys in the entry scratched, obviously the one that the mopes, including the track oddsmaker, thought had the far better chance to win; otherwise, how could the remaining horsey in the coupled entry be allowed to go off at 22-1 at post time!<\/p>\n

From a V6 Betting Line standpoint, the race was contentious, before the scratch of the #1 horse and after. Before the race, the line was allotted as follows: Fair Odds of 3½-1, 4-1, 4-1, 5-1 on the top four horseys on the Betting Line. Contentious race, and you can tell at a glance, one look at the Betting Line.<\/p>\n

After the scratch of the #1 horse, the Betting Line changed a little, but it retained its contentious shape: Fair Odds of 2½-1, 3-1, 3½-1, 5-1.<\/p>\n

What was left of the original coupled entry, the #1A Confident Lady, was still on top of the LifeLiner Speed Column analysis, 95.<\/p>\n

The Mountaineer faithful got bamboozled. Confident Lady maintained daylight from start to finish, winning by 5¼ and paying $47.60 up top.<\/p>\n

Good job, Ned. We salute you.<\/p>\n

Now, why can’t we take credit for this one. Mainly, the 3-1 odds on the morning line are way too low to even entertain that there’ll be some value on the win end. Horses at 3-1 on the morning line just don’t go off at 22-1 with any predictable regularity.<\/p>\n

In this instance, the scratch of the entrymate was huge, and Ned, as always, is right: this is why you have to have the V6 at home, ready to put out the late-scratch, ready to see that the 3-1 on the morning line is indeed 22-1 in real life, on the toteboard.<\/p>\n

Of course, as one of ’em ambulance attorneys chasing ‘deevorce dollars’, Ned Reldem, Esq., rarely gets one put over on him. ’gratsz, Ned, as if you really need it.<\/p>\n
