Hotlanta v. Philalala in the American Top-Flight Beisbol last night. Two second basemen, both with surnames starting with the letter ‘U’. Ugueth Urbina was going wild, waving his machete at the big-screen TV whenever either of those second basemen appeared in the picture. However, he had neglected to bring his jerrycan of petrol in from the garage. <\/p>\n
Philsz rally hard from 1-5 down to lead 6-5 and needing only to keep the Bravos from scoring in their final three outs in the top of the 9th. Where’s Ugueth Urbina when you need him? He would have preserved the win. Heck, even Papelbon would have done it. Except Papelbon was on an enforced day of rest. Jake Diekman needed only to retire three Bravos without allowing any potential baserunners to score. Good odds he could do it.<\/p>\n
He did not. In fact, he allowed four runs in, thanks to a grand slam by Dannie Ugh!la, one of the second basemen, the one playing for Hotlanta. <\/p>\n
Ugueth Urbina was outraged. He stormed into his garage, grabbed his jerrycan of petrol, walked back into the den and emptied the contents of the jerrycan onto the big-screen TV. Then he struck a match with his machete and tossed the flame at the TV. In the ensuing conflagration, before the TV sparked and went black for the last time, the image of Diekman’s crestfallen face melted in a mess of collapsing plasma and plastic.<\/p>\n
Before the rest of the house caught fire, Urbina’s cellphone rang. He answered it with a grunt.<\/p>\n
‘Hello! Ugueth Urbina?’ <\/p>\n
Urbina grunted again.<\/p>\n
‘Yeah, Ugueth. Ryne Sandberg here…’<\/p>\n
