Exhale. Too much horseys. Sometimes.

Yesterday’s Activity: Punked in the Hawthorne opener.

Again, we do not tout horseys unless they are 8-1 on the morning line or higher. So, a 6-1 horsey, no touting.

Here’s Race 1 from Chicagoland, and with only six horses in the mix, the morning-line is necessarily compressed. However, the actual wagering took on an entirely different shape.

Here’s a horsey named Papsote, 6-1 on the morning line, highest number in the field in that regard. Papasote looks playable, given his status as third-top runner in a contentious race on the V6 Betting Line — the top horsey has Fair Odds of 2½-1, the next horse is at Fair Odds of 3-1 and the Papasote issue is at Fair Odds of 3½-1.

As well, Papasote has the best figure in the LifeLiner Speed column: 99.

So, though there was no touting this Papasote issue, he did have more than a few things in his favour. Strictly from a V6 output standpoint, he was worth scrutinizing.

Not many V6 mopesz playing Hawthorne yesterday, it looks like. On the local toteboard, Papasote was nowhere near his morning-line valuation of 6-1. Instead, he ballooned up to 14½-1, as though he had just ingested one of ’em Deep Dish Pies (truly, they are not pizza), one of ’em Chicago Beefs and one of ’em Chicago Hot Dogs with the Celery all in one standing. (They don’t sit horseys, do they? Thus, one standing.)

Of course, you know how this must turn out. Yep, you guessed it. Papasote outruns his enormous odds, eking out the win by a dirty neck and paying $31-even in the process. Thanks a lot, Chicagoland. Thanks a lot, Hawthorne Race Course track oddsmaker! Go back to your M. Scott McMannis snooze-a-nar. MSM. Ugh. ‘Superior information’, you bet. Ugh.

As always, Welcome to The Home of The Runner-Up Finish, this time led by Backintheacademy, loser by a dirty neck (where have we heard this one before?) at 18½-1 in Race 4 at Arcadia.

Backintheacademy was a touted horsey, the sole touted horsey in this race, top of the V6 Betting Line at Fair Odds of 3-1. As well, Backintheacademy was top of the LifeLiner Speed Column: 89. Oh, well. Next time!

Back to Hawthorne for a minor consolation in the finale. Not really a KING OF THE NETCAPPER BULLIESZ special, but a winner nonetheless at a bet-down 3-1. Touted, because he was 8-1 on the morning line and qualified on all other measures.

Also bet-down was the saver perfecta in Race 3 at Pimlico. This was even-money over the touted 24-1 runner-up in a six-horse field. The 24-1 was the second-longest shot on the board, yet the saver exactor returned only $29.20.

WMF Report:

Early
Beulah 5½f, 6f
Chas.
