Watch out, State of Washington! It’s OK to inhale, Mistah Clinton! Deeply!

Not far behind that scene, or perhaps a leading Left Coast originator of it, the beautiful City of Portlandia in Oregon, and this song by one of its leading citizens. No, not that Pink Martini guy; rather, the great Malkmus, by way of Stockton, Charlottesville and New York City and a few other cities, too, probably.

It’s been that sort of week; we need to hear something poppy, something innocent.

Yet the song is passive-aggressive! The music sounds like Boz Scaggs or even 10cc but the lyrics are sinister, subversive, the sort of union of passive music and aggressive lyrics found in XTC’s King for a Day, say.

As well, how can you not think of Malkmus as clever as he name-checks Lippmann and Avedon! Plus, he prefigured the rise of Oblahblah and the large-scale flim-flammery of Madoff! In comparison, we here are only street-level pimpsz and scammers. Hey, it takes all kinds.

Good song. Accessible on many levels, depending on how far down you want to drill. Clarity is elusive.

Race 5 at Lexington was one of those mad 4½-furlong dashes for the babies. The touted Bonkersmate Manaus, 15-1 on the morning line and 28-1 in real life, held on to the place. The 8-5 fave had the requisite firster numbers, however, and the $109 exacta was gettable from this perspective.

Yes, five horseys were listed Race 6 there, and it was a massacre. Some of the listed did complete the super-duper, at 25-1 and 8-1.

That left Race 8 for the glory of Dreams Cut Short, 15-1 on the morning line and 18-1 at the off. Only two of the entrants did not qualify on the Life Liner, even though Dreams Cut Short was a prohibitive selection on the Betting Line. Of course, the show-horse was an unwanted buttinsky kibitzer! Boo! The exacta did pay $227 or so, though.

Minor praise for 45-1 Bonkersmate Tea Tott in the sixth at Pimlico.

And now we have the munchies.
