Literal late-bloomer…<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

We had long been aware of the phenomenon of the local jacaranda trees being able to bloom twice during a calendar year \u2014 once at the usual, never-varies time between Memorial Day and Independence Day, or from late-May through early-July; and the other time being somewhere in September. However, we had never actually visually confirmed these reports of a second, later bloom; it remained a myth, a unicorn, a Yeti, a leprechaun, a Sasquatch, an instance in which supply-side trickle-down economics actually accrued a measurable fiscal benefit to the lower rungs of the socioeconomic ladder etc. But then came yesterday…<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Yea, verily, the jacaranda tree fronting the Cynthia Publishing Co. World HQ had a cluster of purple\/violet blossoms bravely displaying their fabled shade. It was a single outgrowth of flowers, but we can now finally attest to the occurrence of the storied Los Angeles jacaranda being able to bloom twice in a calendar year. And now that we have seen it with our own eyes, we have started to be on the lookout for it elsewhere in the city \u2014 and lo and behold, at the park alongside our local public tennis courts, two or three jacaranda trees showing a September bloom! How long has this been going on!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several post-bedtime issues to report from last night\u2019s (Monday\u2019s) late action: at Opelousas, La.<\/strong>, #3 Achromedoutcat<\/strong> (.230 Win Prob \/ 3.35-1 Fair Odds \/ 4.09-1 Premium Odds) roared to a $24.20<\/strong> upset in Race 7<\/strong>; #5 He\u2019s Just Lucky<\/strong> (.194 \/ 4.15 \/ 5.19) completed your winning $128.60 exacta<\/strong> whose premium price was $50.63; at New Cumberland, W.Va.<\/strong>, your opener<\/strong> went to #3 Stepnoski<\/strong> (.528 \/ 0.89 \/ 1.16) at $5.40<\/strong>; next race<\/strong> there, #7 Dance On Air<\/strong> (.271 \/ 2.69 \/ 3.32) hoofed it into the winner\u2019s circle at $8-even<\/strong>; your winning $23.60 daily double<\/strong> had a premium price of $18.66; in Race 7<\/strong> there, #2 Tate<\/strong> (.276 \/ 2.62 \/ 3.24) was not late to the wire at $8.60<\/strong>; and in your Race 8 finale<\/strong>, #1 Irish Heatwave<\/strong> (.294 \/ 2.40 \/ 2.88) won it for manmade climate change at $7.20<\/strong>; your winning $33.60 daily double<\/strong> had a premium price of $32.90.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today (Tuesday) brought these results…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Canandaigua, N.Y.<\/strong>, your Race 8 finale<\/strong> had a couple of raceday scratches, including one announced in the middle of the card, leaving #5 Big Jackie<\/strong> (.323 \/ 2.10 \/ 2.62) to score as a low-priced-overlay winner in the five-horse rumble at $8.74<\/strong>; your winning $23.64 exacta<\/strong> was completed by #1 All Fun N Games<\/strong> (.312 \/ 2.21 \/ 2.75) and had a premium price of $19.65.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Race 2<\/strong> from Shelbyville, Ind.<\/strong>, had #1 Liams Fancy<\/strong> (.363 \/ 1.75 \/ 2.14) realizing the victory at $6-even<\/strong>. In Race 6<\/strong> there, one firster allowed old head #3 Pioneer Sky<\/strong> (.275 \/ 2.64 \/ 3.25) to win it for the experienceds at $10.40<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

#6 Call Me Later<\/strong> (.313 \/ 2.19 \/ 2.74) arrived at the line sooner than the rest in Erie, Penna.<\/strong>\u2019s Race 5<\/strong> at $11-even<\/strong>. Next race<\/strong> there, #6 Inspire Courage<\/strong> (.285 \/ 2.51 \/ 3.11) and #1 Cactus Cairo<\/strong> (.350 \/ 1.86 \/ 2.26) combined on your winning $25.20 exacta<\/strong> whose premium price was $20.27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally to the No. Randall, Ohio<\/strong>, for Race 5<\/strong>, in which #2 Momma K\u2019s Boy<\/strong> (.216 \/ 3.63 \/ 4.42) got the W at $10.20<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
