The Metromedia Radio outlet in Philadelphia, FM-93.3 WMMR, sister station to the gone-but-not-forgotten FM-102.7 WNEW in New York, which was way-better than the totally overhyped other rock station in that city, FM-95.7 WPLJ, which had a playlist that basically consisted of maybe 50 or 100 songs \u2014 all the tired cliches, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, bombastic big-names, never any room for the complete spectrum of what rock could be. On the other hoof, WMMR &amp; WNEW were able to present a reasonably eclectic roster of bands: The Police, Elvis Costello, Dire Straits, you-name-it. Graham Parker was also among those getting some spins on the air, and here\u2019s one you could listen to on WMMR &amp; WNEW, but never on WPLJ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Gotta get out of here early today, going to Chavez Ravine to mix &amp; mingle with the <em>b\u00e9isbol<\/em> loving hoi polloi.
