We all know what the \u2018brethren\u2019 refers to, a certain brand of toxic masculinity and moldy patriarchy, or else more specifically to the judicial branch of the federal government. This song feels like how Brett Kavanaugh made it through his confirmation (so-called) hearings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the album, there\u2019s the line \u2018Men are scum, I won\u2019t deny\u2019, and when Mr. Malkmus sings it, you know which side he\u2019s agreeing with. (Hint: not his own.)<\/p>\n<p>Then there\u2019s other dystopian constructions on this record, like \u2018come before the lash\u2019, \u2018the execution tree\u2019, \u2018kick off your jackboots \/ it\u2019s time to unwind\u2019 (in reference to the police in a song about the homicide perpetrated on Freddie Gray in Balto.), so many more.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Strongshots:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chas.
