The hyphen is underrated. We are generally hyphen-happy. The proofreaders & copy editors would have a conniption fit over it \u2014 not to mention the use of the ampersand as opposed to the conjunction spelled-out. In this case, in the hyphenated lede from the previous page, without the hyphen, you might think that the act of catching is up, whether that\u2019s up as in being \u2018above\u2019 or \u2018next\u2019 or however you might interpret up. So the hyphen adds some clarity \u2014 at least to our idiosyncratic minds \u2014 that the construction is linked, joined, together; without that connection, ambiguity might arise. Or something like that. Again, we are hyphen-happy. Thank you!<\/p>\n
