Suffolk Downs is closing! <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Went there one time, in 1984, not even 17 years old. It was the opening act to a summer spent mainly in Cambridge, Mass. Suffolk Downs, even in the mid-1980s, was like a racetrack you&rsquo;d find in an old-timey black-and-white movie or the original <em>The Twilight Zone<\/em> TV programme. The predominant color was a nice drab green, even paler than vintage hospital scrubs. Just a lifeless, weatherbeaten green. It was like the same color of nearby Fenway Park, just barely green. There was a Mach 5 homerun from the A&rsquo;s Tony Armas at Fenway on the Fourth of July, 1984. Then Jim Rice had a walkoff grand slam in the 10th.
