Thank you. <\/p>\n
Here’s to summer, then. Do you dare to eat a peach? Of course! They are in season now! No need to overcomplicate the presentation or overelaborate the procedure. Simply grab a peach (or three) from the fruit bowl on the counter — you do NOT refrigerate your peaches, do you? — give it a perfunctory splash from the kitchen faucet and stay right there: no need to walk over to the table. Rather, hold the peach a few inches from your mouth, open your mouth, sink your two (or four) front teeth in and allow the flesh and the juice to bathe your lips and your tongue in nectary ecstasy. Hopefully you did not get a mealy peach, because nothing is worse than having to endure a mealy peach. By choosing to consume your juicy peach straight over the kitchen sink, you have given yourself permission to bite, slurp and chew with complete abandon, no worries of making a mess. When you are done, simply turn the faucet back on, rinse away the juice that did not make it into your mouth and begin anew. <\/p>\n
So that’s the peach, then. But wait, there’s more! Other drupes also are currently in season. We are just as pleased to welcome back to the table the less-juicy but no less delightful black cherries. So good. Summer fruit — do not delay. Stone fruit — do not delay. Drupes — do not delay.
