Love the friezes all around the place at Elmont, N.Y. There’s the Triple Crown commemorations along the railing in the paddock, painted with the colors of the winners and runners-up. And how about those memorial plaques situated every few feet on the redbrick grandstand? The place really is a shrine to racing; it’s similar to seeing the Stations of the Cross in a Roman Catholic church, these friezes and memorial plaques all over the place there at big, beautiful Belmont Park. A shrine to racing. Long may it live. <\/p>\n

N.B. Miss Tom Durkin, though. Tom Durkin #1 always. Too much nostalgia. Friezes, plaques, Stations of the Cross. Horseracing as religion. Angel (Cordero Jr.), pray for us!<\/p>\n
