Stakes Sweep: Oct. 22, 2010

All the action is under the lights, in the Sooner State.

The forecast is for heavy weather this evening at Remington, which presents its OK Classics card of eight consecutive statebred stakes races.

Barring any late scratches or surface switches, the program shakes down as follows:

Race 3 is the Lassie for 2yo fillies. The live longshot has to be #3 Scarlet Mist.

Race 4 is the Juvenile, same as Race 3 but for male babies. Mild morning-line fave #12 Smiles Ahead could very well prove to be a legitimate choice.

Race 5 is the Distaff, 1m70y for the ladies. The coupled-entry of #1 She’s All In and #1A Peach Brew dominate the V6 Betting Line reckoning. Otherwise, #6 Shania Twang rates as a viable contender, especially when you consider the late-playing nature of this main track.

Race 6 is the Filly & Mare Turf (if it indeed stays there), distance of 7½f. #4 Skedee is the track oddsmaker’s overwhelming choice, but perhaps it can be more contested than that. Looking for #2 Enchanting to gain a hoofhold in the exotics.

Race 7 is the Sprint, 6f, of course, and #4 Steal Your Face is the lukewarm selection in the official track program. But #7 Specialfite, #1 Fifth Date and #5 Conkigo just may buck the prevailing track trend.

Race 8 is the Filly Sprint, also 6f, and the play is to leave favored #1 Shotgun Gulch out of the calculations and concentrating on #2 Vertical Vision and #3 Miss Natalie.

Race 9 is the Turf, just a flat-mile, and as its big brother BC Mile usually is (less Goldikova, surely), it’s wide-open. Any selection you make will be OK by us, but we try #6 Grapes to Wine and #8 Ti Township and #10 Rite to Rule. As they say, “Bombs away!”

Race 10 is the Classics Classic. It’s only 1 1/16m, and we can’t abide by 2-1 morning-line topper #4 Pleasant Storm. Instead, it’s time to go with #10 Garbu’s Son, #5 Share Cropper and #3 Some Quick.

The activity starts at 8:32 p.m. EDT (7:32 p.m. CDT / 6:32 p.m. MDT / 5:32 p.m. PDT), and you can watch it on television.

Bye-bye for now.
