Austin, impostor re-education campuses etc. Jesus was here before you, and he’d like to have a word, without your imputing your class- and race-superiority onto it. Thank you!
Taking it easy today after spending some quality time for the greater part of your Saturday in the ER triage with a dear friend in-need. About 10 hrs. after checking-in, the checkout took place, and all the necessary diagnoses, prognoses & treatments were in-hand.
Unless you are a 1-percenter of the highest order or else a lower-rung denizen on the socioeconomic ladder who is without a soul, with no genuine sense of what has gone before & what is on the way, you can’t help but marvel at the Human Pageant on display in the urgent-care part of the hospital. If you have ever even heard the words ‘there but for the Grace of God/Hashem/Yahweh/Allah/Buddha/Don Trump Sr. go I’, you know that that phrase is going to be playing on repeat in your mind as soon as you get to the ER. Gurneys in the corridors, tubes, drips, hums & beeps, cries of despair, agony, relief, anger, resignation, acceptance, etc. It’s a community, all right, and your precious bubble won’t be able to shield you.
It’s a good place to encounter every now & again, if only to remind yourself that your problems in life or in impending death are not unique in the universe, and that the random spins of the cosmic wheel are not just landing on YOU-YOU-YOU with EVERYTHING COMING-UP whammy. Leave some space for your fellow-man. You don’t have to be Mother Teresa, but you don’t have to be the DOGE patrol, either. Indeed, knowing that your mortal days must surely come to an end, maybe with a little or a lot of pain & suffering along the way, should infuse with but a modicum of grace & mercy to quit being a bully all the time.
Or maybe not. But that’s a foolish hope, perhaps.
