by Dick Mitchell
More than ever, maiden races are crucial to your racetrack existence. If you play
any serial bets such as the daily double, Pick-3, Pick-4 or Pick-6, you are quite aware of
the importance of being able to conquer the maiden race. With the Mastering
Maidens Package, you'll learn when to bet on first-time starters and when not to.
You'll learn how to handle a horse's second lifetime start. You'll learn the
proper weighting of pace in maiden races. In one of our studies ran at 37 tracks
across North America, consisting of 1,759 maiden races (both sprints and routes), the
eventual winner led at the second call 787 times (45%). Maidens on or near the lead
(within one length at the second call) won 1,108 times (a whopping 63%!). You'll
learn how to determine which horses will be near the front.
Another interesting finding was the fact that frontrunners held on better in routes
than sprints. The maiden stretch-out in route races won far more than their fair
share of races. You'll learn a very important technique that will allow you to
determine whether a maiden sprinter can stretch out or not. Mitchell also discusses
the importance of workouts in maiden races. He proves that time is not as important
as frequency. (The only time that workout time is relevant is when it is better than
race time.) The Commonsense Maiden Handicapping video marks the first time
that the concept of "furlongs-per-day" was ever discussed.
This special package includes the Mastering Maidens booklet with a supplemental
audiotape, plus the video Commonsense Maiden Handicapping:
Maidens Booklet and Audiotape
Maidens offer wonderful opportunities. They account for almost 25%
of the races carded on a typical day. They usually contain full fields. Contrary to
popular belief, they are very predictable. Dick Mitchell and Steve Unite have
written a booklet titled Mastering Maidens. It contains their latest research and
conclusions. Maidens will no longer be a challenge to you. They will become one of your
most profitable plays. You'll learn when to bet on first-time starters and when to
throw them out. You'll learn how to deal with the second-time starter. The key to maiden
races is a concept called Ability Pars. One glance at the Ability Par will
tell you if a maiden is a contender or not. This concept is not found anywhere in the
literature of thoroughbred handicapping. It's so powerful that Mitchell often bets only on
maiden races when he attends a simulcast venue. (Softcover book and
supplemental audiotape, 64 pages)
