No more Los Doyers, so now Los Reyes are among the remaining big-league sports-entertainment options here in La-La Land. Last night, in an outreach to the area’s LatinX/Spanish-speaking community, the Kings paid tribute to the local culture and hosted an El dia de los muertos night at the arena, and, yup, the event lived up to that billing, for sure, with the hosts showing zero signs of life against Philalala.
La-La Land was always chasing shadows in this one, and they just look old and slow and a step behind right now. On the other skate, Philalala appeared crisp and speedy, gliding to a 5-2 win. As a side note, the organist at the arena, one Mistah Dieter Ruehle, the same guy who plays the organ at Los Doyers Stadium, definitely rises to the occasion. Since the opponent was Philalala, Ruehle entertained the crowd with such ditties as ‘TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia)’, ‘Philadelphia Freedom’ and, get this, ‘Here Come the Sixers’ — fantastic work by the organist! As well, he is the same guy who, when relief pitcher Erik Goeddel comes in to pitch for Los Doyers, plays the theme music for Monday Night Football on the organ. Genius!
