We report, you decide…

No contest, a climatological boat race.

As well, we rarely talk about racing, but Craig Perret’s nomination to the National Racing Hall of Fame got us remembering. New Orleans native, fantastic on the turf, Perret was one of those for-hire riders who booted home all those useful Blanche & Rob’t. P. Levy horseys to wins up and down the Eastern Seaboard. A great pleasure to watch his regal and patrician bearing (Perret, not Levy) in the saddling ring before the races. Jeez-a-loo, he only rode a couple of times a week, so he could be a snob like that, mostly through the Levy horses, and it was always with some misguided, postadolescent reverence that we witnessed those times he deigned to visit Atlantic City Race Course, also owned by Levy, for an easy evening win. Bet Twice, Housebuster…he did not have to do much to finish first with those guys. Craig Perret, blast from the past, snob rider for snob owners, like that pool-hustler who keeps his cue in a case and takes it out with great fanfare. That was Craig Perret for the Levys. Thank you for the memories.

Yesterday’s Activity:

Track (Win Mutuels $20+/Gettable)

Chas. Town (2/0) — Martinsburg firefighters

Delta (2/0) — Erosion threatening some Lake Chas. homes.

Gulf (3/1½) — Race 6 was contentious, and Old-School Champeens were OK with debut-issue Vassy, Fair Odds of 3-1; he rallied like the champion he’s on his way to becoming, winning by a clean neck at $21.40. Race 9 was contentious, but only High-Octane Chancers and Progressive-Minded Eggheads were unable to forget Forgive, a strong 90 on the LifeLiner Speed Column analysis; he rallied mildly to win by a clean neck at $27.20. Good work.

Mahoning (2/1) — Race 3 was contentious, and players of all stripes could decided to hang their hopes on Thirtysilverpieces, bare-minimum 80 on the LifeLiner Spread Column analysis; he was up-close and personal throughout, winning by a clean neck (!) at $30.60. Good work.

PennNat (1/0) — Visiting Peng-a-wins beat Winn., 7-4; Nick Bonino had a hat-trick for Pgh., bringing his season total to 12.
