R.I.P., Dallas Green. Scrub over to 3:14 and play-out to 5:14. This was a good franchise, the Ruly Carpenter III (L’ville ’58, probably, or a loose affiliation at least, since we remember our disbelief in seeing him in the stands at an ’murrikan Gridiron Throwball game on campus one time) 1970s-1980s Philadelphia Phillies, owned by true old-money patricians and not showoff arrivistes. Nice to the see the humility and emotion and weeping after the biggest moment of their lives. All good Irishmen here. Not the Irish-in-name-only Paul Ryan kind. R.I.P., Dallas Green. Have a good embrace and a bottle or many with your Irish buddies Pope & Tugger up there. Laugh and weep with the true Irish legends of Philalala sport. R.I.P., Dallas Green. Continue reading

Fine episode. These are all reasonable people who only want to make you laugh, not be cruel to you just because you are not living up to arbitrary standards of color, purity or economic achievement. R.I.P., Chuck Barris. Roll ’em from 16:05. Refrain from drinking milk while viewing, otherwise it may end up coming out of your nostrils. Continue reading

It’s been a while, so here’s the new guy what’s gonna be with us: Kevork, the Rocky Mountain Spotted Retriever. Here we are, three months and some 30-plus pounds later, and he’s doing more than just the doggie paddle in this little snippet. Continue reading

Put this in your mouth…

Gresescent is the best ice cream in La-La Land. However, since it’s in DTLA, it’s not exactly what the locals of the San Fernando Valley call ‘geographically desirable’. Downtown Studio City is blessed with two reasonable standbys in McConnell’s and, pictured here, Salt & Straw. We used to sneer at the latter, given its Portlandia roots and overly hipster vibe — right down to a guy in a preciously long beard scooping ice cream above all the tubs and doubtless getting some choice facial hair into his servings. But we have to give credit where it’s due, and Salt & Straw’s Saint Patrick’s Day offering, ‘Pots of Gold & Rainbows’ is like Lucky Charms (including all the sweet excess milk) turned into a frozen dessert. The Leprechaun would be pleased, and it’s some sort of Black Irish Black Magic they conjured up with this treat. Nummie. Continue reading

Rachel Maddow and Geraldo Rivera need to team-up for the next big, breathless countdown-type exposé, like Jimmie Hoffa Unearthed Inside Al Capone’s Vault with The Rest of Don Trump Sr.’s Financials. Or somesuch. Continue reading
